Upon entering our office, Kari our receptionist will welcome you. She will request that you complete some paperwork that will provide us with your health history and information on what's wrong. If you would like to fill this out prior to arriving in the office you can print it from the New Patient Center using Online Forms.
Next, you will have a consultation with Dr. John Beneski to discuss your health-related problems, concerns, and potential treatment options. This part of the initial visit is for Dr. Beneski to learn more about you, your condition, and your expectations.
After your consultation, Dr. Beneski will perform a thorough examination to find out if he will be able to help you. The exam includes specific chiropractic tests as well as neurological, orthopedic and physical tests that you might receive in a neurologist's office or your primary care physician's office. Dr. Beneski only accepts the patients he truely believes will benefit from care. The exam is important in determining if you will be accepted as a patient and what will need to be done to help you.
Surface Electromyography Spinal Scan
Surface EMG is often a vital part of your first visit. This test uses State of the Art Computerized Neurological Diagnostics to measure the physical pressure on nerves below what you can feel. Tests are quick, painless and noninvasive. Results quantify the problem, compare it to established normal values and show it to the doctor and patient in easy to understand graphics.
This information is helpful in locating your problem and can also be used later in your care to assess progress by compairing past scans with current ones.
You can know with Certainty if Chiropractic can help your Problem!
X-Ray and MRI Studies
Depending on your specific condition, we may request you have an X-ray or MRI. These advanced studies are not taken routeinly but when they are needed an X-ray or an MRI will help us develop the most effective treatment plan for you, and alert us of any serious spinal conditions such as a herniated disc, tumors or degenerative disc disease. Dr. Beneski will take the time to show you the film and not simply read the report to you. It's important that you understand everything that is going on and most people are amazed when they see their X-rays or MRI up close.
Report of Findings
Once the information is collected and examinations are complete, Dr. Beneski will discuss recommendations and informed consent and notify you if he feels he will be able to help. This is also an opportunity to ask any questions you may have regarding treatment options that have not been answered during your consultation or exam.
Because we understand that you want to feel better as soon as possible treatment is provided on the first visit when ever possible. The experience of your first treatment is important and Dr. Beneski will explain each step of the process. Pain is rarely associated with treatment and infact most people are pleased at how "not painful" it is. Treatment may include chiropractic adjustments, physical therapy, and/or soft tissue massage. We frequently incorporate nutrition into a care plan however nutrition is not discussed on your first visit. We are focused on long term goals however on your first visit we understand that feeling better is the priority and your time with us on your first visit will focus on just that...helping you feel better.
