What can I expect for my first massage?

Please arrive 15 minutes early for your first appointment, you will be required to fill out a Client Intake Form and sign the Office Policy. After discussing your health history, current need for massage, and any painful areas of concern we will create a personalized session tailored just for your body. Then you will be given a few minutes of privacy and peace to undress to your level of comfort before lying on the massage table.

You will be draped in sheets for the duration of the session. Your therapist will knock before entering the room again. Once the massage begins, we encourage you to openly communicate if you would like to change the pressure, temperature, music, or have a drink of water. This is your time to relax, so be comfortable and content.

Do I need to be completely undressed?

Clients should undress to their comfort level for the massage. While many people undress fully, wearing of underwear, bras, shorts, t-shirts or the like is perfectly acceptable. Ladies, please be aware that if you are wearing a bra, the therapist may ask to unhook it to more completely and effectively work on your back. You will be draped with a sheet for privacy at all times during the massage.

Will it hurt?

Generally speaking, massage is not a painful experience. However, during the massage you may find that certain areas you were not aware of are tender while the therapist is working on them.

Also, there are certain, specific types of therapeutic massage, like Deep Tissue and Triggerpoint Therapy that can be somewhat painful. Most clients describe it as a "good kind of pain", like a deep stretch.

What's most important is for you to communicate with your Therapist. If you're finding the work to be too painful, ask him or her to lighten up.
